Jumpman, Existential Self-Examination of

Jumpman

Therapists who treat video game characters and follow the teachings of Jumpian Psychology, named for the self-probing questions developed by Jumpman and his analyst, Dr. Karl Fortran, use these five questions to begin the sometimes long road of psychotherapy:

  1. What if I fall off the platform?
  2. What happens if I don’t defuse all the bombs in time?
  3. Will I be happy if I am ported to the Amiga?
  4. What if I reach the last level, and there is no God when I arrive?
  5. Would I be just as content with my life if I were Ms. Jumpman?

The five questions are credited with contributing to the mental well-being of video game luminaries including Luigi, Lara Croft, Rayman and Bomberman.

Dude, question #2 is deep. It’s all about just doing what you can and not future-tripping. Next time I am tempted to obsess about stuff, I am going to ask myself: What if I don’t defuse all of the bombs in time?

What if I would swear that screenshot is from Jumpman Junior? Would that cause an identity crisis-thing for Jumpman, or for me?

Jumpman Jr. was actually his inner child.
