You Switch The Controller Port

Depending on how you look at it, it’s either one of the most frustratingly annoying moments in home console history or one of the most genius-laden moments of brilliance. In the Psycho Mantis boss fight of the original Metal Gear Solid, you’re fighting someone who can read your thoughts (and the contents of your PlayStation memory card). He can anticipate your every move.
How do you beat him? You unplug the controller from Port 1, plug it back in on Port 2 and beat the crap out of him.
It was one of those, “Aha!” moments that most people would never have figured out for themselves if not for strategy guides or hints from friends. When did a challenge in a game ever require you to mess with the console hardware itself to move ahead?
Of course, this was when almost everyone dug the Metal Gear Solid games. These days, there are plenty of people who would respond to the game by simply turning off the entire console.

In the Sega Genesis game X-Men, you have to press the reset button on the console to finish one of the levels.
